JOIN US SUN., JUNE 29th NOON to 8pm. for a PARKING LOT POTTERY PARTY!

Featuring Raku Pottery
Firing! Bring a Pot!
Potters from throughout the Salt Lake valley are invited to join us for a little raku fun. Bring a small bisqued pot (less that 6 inches in size) and we will fire everything we can for a minimal fee ($5-$10). Any clay will work, but some may be better than others. Low fire clays tend to blacken less than cone 5 and cone 10 clays because they fire more completely at raku tempertures. Cone 5 and 10 stonewares are best in the opinion of many, but many potters use white clays like b-mix and porcelains. We’ll try anything, as Raku is a process of experimentation and surprize. Keep in mind some pieces might be lost, as this rapid process results in more cracking than traditional firings.
Raku firing is a traditional Japanese pottery technique where glazed ceramics are removed from a hot kiln and placed in combustible materials to create unique colors and surface effects. This process is known for its unpredictability, resulting in one-of-a-kind pieces each time. It’s a fun to watch and to take part in!

Plus Art & Pottery Activities For All to Enjoy!
We will have activities and fun for everyone! Kid’s will be able to create their own creations out of clay or decorate pre-made clay tiles with colored clay slips (think non-toxic clay based paints). Then we’ll fire them for them for pick up a couple of weeks later at no charge.
Everyone can give the potters wheel a try! Often our new students have never tried it before or long ago when they were in school they took a pottery class. It’s so much fun for both to sit down and give it a try. People who have never done it before find themselves centering clay and making pots on their very first day! Those who did it years ago, discover it’s like riding a bike… they find they remember so much from their school days! For who want to do more and sign up with us we’ll have the best deal ever available just that day: New students get 7 weeks of pottery instruction and studio time (though the end of August) for just $99 (normally over $200).
Plus their will be pottery sales, and electric bike demos from our great neighbors Cyrusher Bikes!
